Introduction to 'The Odyssey'

How are ancient Epic Poems relevant today?

'The Odyssey' is an Epic Poem that is thousands of years old. It explores philosophical questions about ourselves. It is a bunch of adventures within a man's journey home.

After fighting for 10 years in the Trojan War, Odysseus and his crew have to get home. It takes them 10 years. This journey is that story.

Question for the day (10 points):
  • Why do you think a 5000 year old story of a journey home is still read today? What must it be about to still be relevant today?
Please watch the following short introductory video:

Came to your site from your comment to https://macris.substack.com/p/repressive-tolerance-in-action
Came here to this page because I've just completed a series for adult EFL learners on the Odyssey! This appears to be part of a course. Could you tell me which one? Who it's for? ANd is it on Udemy?

Good morning. This site isn't actually part of a course, but I put many lessons from my class here. I am a high school teacher and I share classwork and content here. My Udemy classes are for the ACT and SAT exams, as well as English literacy.

Good to hear from you!
