Does that sound strange to you? It shouldn't. This was on February 18th:
That headline isn't even a month old. If the Novel Coronavirus fatality rate is so low, why are we causing untold damage by shutting down the American economy? The article doesn't say.
Three weeks before that, we were told this, from the NY Times:
Are you clear now? Because this was the first message: that masks 'do little to protect healthy people' yet the hoarding will cause a shortage of masks. How can there be a shortage? It's just a simple mask. The largest economy in the history of the world can't come up with a way to quickly make simple masks? The author never asks that question.
Did you know that masks are listed as a 'medical device' and need FDA approval to be produced? You don't want to know the regulation that goes into that, and the red tape that has to be dealt with.
It isn't a quick process.
Here we are now:
This is early April. Now, 2 months after the fact, the CDC reverses itself and says masks are recommended, and wearing one is voluntary. What? In this time of a pandemic, a 2 month old, 180 degrees wrong decision is tolerated? If you were given a medical directive that cost you or a loved one his life, would you trust the source that did it? The Media and the CDC were telling you that CV19 wasn't a big deal, and masks were unnecessary. They did this for weeks.
There's more.
The Corporate Media can't help itself, so it has to find a way to say Orange Man Bad. The focus of the ABC article above is that Trump isn't wearing a mask, and that's bad. Because Orange Man Bad.
The whole thing looks like a farce. The Corporate Media is so disgusting, dangerous, and wrong that you can't blame people for pushing the "it's a hoax" line. I don't blame them, and you shouldn't either. Blame the Corporate Media, and then either ignore the Corporate Media, or spend time mocking them. It's what I do here, and at work with High School students.
